Eight years after a career-ending mistake derails a star quarterback’s future, Chad Powers follows his hilarious attempt to start fresh—by going undercover as a new college football player. The Hulu comedy series stars Glen Powell as the disguised athlete and Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, the bold, outspoken booster behind the struggling South Georgia Catfish.

Everett describes the show as “an extremely off-kilter comedy filled with humor, wit, and sometimes darkness,” adding that it’s “a roller coaster ride of emotions with a lot of tenderness and heart.”

“It’s just not at all what people expect,” Everett said. “Even if you think you know what it is—please tune in. There’s something in there that you’ll fall in love with.”

Her character, Tricia, is the head booster for the Catfish football team. “She’s large and in charge,” Everett laughed. “She’s got opinions about everything and thinks she knows how to run the program.”

The Georgia-based actress drew inspiration for Tricia from women she grew up around—especially her mother. “My mom is the strongest Southern woman you’d ever meet,” she said. “There are about 50 Southern-isms I’ve pitched to the writers straight from her. I told them, if we get a season two, they have to include her line, ‘Call the police!’ She says it about everything.”

Everett said filming the series was filled with joy and creativity, crediting directors Tony Yacenda, Payman Benz, and Michael Waldron for fostering a fun, collaborative set. She also reunited with longtime friend Steve Zahn for their third project together. “When I’m on set with Steve, it’s just easy and comfortable, and we’re like old friends that we joke sitting on the nursing home, like porch on the rocking chair, and he it’s just, it’s just it’s so easy to be with him,” she said.

When asked about Chad Powers’ theme of reinvention, Everett joked that she’d love to go undercover as a casting director—or even secretly tag along with her daughters to see their world from afar.

But at its core, she says, the series is about second chances. “I hope people walk away feeling a little bit lighter,” she said. “That they laughed, maybe cried, and felt the tenderness of these broken, open characters. It’s never too late for redemption.”

As for what’s next, Everett hopes fans make enough noise for another season. “We just want people to watch and tell Hulu to bring us back,” she said. “We love this world and want to share more of it.”
