Hurricane Gabrielle is located about 200 miles southeast of Bermuda and is rapidly intensifying, with sustained winds near 120 mph.
On Monday morning, Hurricane Gabrielle intensified from a Category 1 to a Category 3.
Gusty winds and showers will be possible across Bermuda today and tonight as it passes by to the east. Swells generated by Gabrielle will continue to impact Bermuda during the next few days. These swells are now reaching the east coast of the United States from North Carolina northward, as well as Atlantic Canada, and are expected to continue through the early part of his week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
The hurricane continues moving north at 10 mph before turning northeast.
While it poses no direct threat to Florida or the U.S., Gabrielle is expected to generate hazardous surf and rip currents along Bermuda and parts of the U.S. East Coast.
Meanwhile, two other tropical disturbances are being monitored in the Atlantic.
The first, in the Central Tropical Atlantic, has a 60% chance of development over the next week as conditions gradually become more favorable.
The second, east of the Lesser Antilles, has a lower 30% weekly development chance but may bring gusty winds and rain to the Leeward Islands early this week.
