JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rain, rain, go away... but it isn’t leaving anytime soon, unfortunately. If you’ve been hoping for a dry day in Jacksonville, I have to let you know that showers are expected to hang around today, tomorrow, and into midweek.
Some of the heaviest rain is expected right along the coast. We could see two and a half to three inches stack up there, with about an inch and a half expected in Jacksonville and around two inches in Orange Park. Just a trace is likely if you’re up in Georgia.
If you noticed some rain early this morning, you weren’t alone. Showers are coming in right off the Atlantic, and Exact Track 4D shows them popping up anywhere, even popping up during yesterday’s Jags game. Some spots are dry, others get a quick sunshower — it changes fast! The wettest part of the day looks to hit around noon, and those showers could keep coming through the evening and even overnight, so keep an umbrella handy.
The rain pattern is likely to last through midweek, though drier and sunnier weather is expected by Thursday based on the current models.
Cooler temps and brisk winds expected
If you step outside, it might actually feel a little (dare I say) cool for September.
Winds are also a big part of this week’s weather picture. Gusts will likely start out in the teens and 20s by 9 a.m., and by afternoon, some of us could see gusts bump up close to 30 miles an hour, especially during heavier thunderstorms. Anything you don’t want blowing away at home should probably come inside for now.
Beaches, playgrounds, and mornings: What to know
Thinking about heading to the beach to catch a break from the rain? Air temperature should hit about 87 degrees, but just a heads-up: the UV index is high, so don’t forget the sunscreen. We’re looking at a moderate rip current risk today, so swim smart and stay aware.
For parents planning your morning, the playground forecast shows temps in the 70s through 9 a.m. with about a 30% chance of showers — great to get out early if you can dodge the rain. At the bus stop, expect 74 degrees at 7 a.m. with a few quick showers for some, but clearer skies the further inland you go. By 3 p.m., showers and a thunderstorm or two could be rolling back through.
The good news? Rain chances start to drop off as we move toward Thursday. By the weekend, highs are expected to stay mild, in the mid-80s, and we should see more sunshine returning.
If you snap a great photo of the wild weather (or finally catch some blue sky!), I’d love to see it! Share your pics at SnapJAX.
