Showers Possible as Hurricane Erin Moves East

Category 2 Erin brings high rip current risks to local beaches

Inland showers have ended, but the northeasterly breeze could push showers and storms along our beaches overnight.

The pattern remains the same as Hurricane Erin will move east of Florida and southeast Georgia tomorrow. Showers and storms will be possible with limited coverage, around 20 - 30 percent, as temperatures hover just above our seasonal levels.

Hurricane Erin is a Category 2 hurricane. The turn to the north will continue as Erin heads into the deep Atlantic this week. Rip current risks along our beaches will remain High.

Near the Leeward Islands, A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form by the end of the week or this weekend. This system should move westward to west-northwestward at about 20 mph and approach the vicinity of the northern Leeward Islands on Friday.

Invest AL99 is being watched in the Eastern Atlantic. A tropical wave located about a hundred miles to the south of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear favorable for additional development over the next couple of days as the system moves westward at around 15 mph. By the end of this week, this system could encounter a less favorable environment, limiting its development chances after that time.

Tonight: Showers and storms will be possible along our beaches.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies early then becoming cloudy at times. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible under the increasing northeastly wind. A mild morning, with lows in the 70s to low 80s. The chance of showers and storms will be 20-30 percent. Afternoon highs will be in the low 90s inland, upper 80s along the beaches. Wind: Northeast at 10-20 mph, with stronger gusts.
