Strong to isolated thunderstorms rumbled across the viewing area this afternoon, toppling trees and leaving puddles behind.
Thunderstorms are winding down while they move north of Waycross, GA. These will be outside of our viewing circle by 11 p.m. tonight.
Hot and muggy through Friday with highs in the 90s and feels-like temperatures hovering between 102 to 107 degrees.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Erin continues to quickly move over the Atlantic with the potential to become a major hurricane this weekend. A gradual turn toward the north is also expected as Erin heads toward the Bahamas.
Tonight: Sea breeze showers and storms through sunset then weakening late.
Thursday: The southwest wind is back. Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies early, then becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. A muggy morning, with lows in the 70s to low 80s. The chance of showers and storms will be 30-50 percent with storms developing as early as noon near I-75, HIghway 301. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 90s inland, upper 80s to low 90s along the beaches. Wind: Southwest then south at 5-10 mph.
Looking ahead: Hot and humid Friday with afternoon showers, storms. The northeast wind returns this weekend for seasonal temperatures and better rain chances west of I-95.
Tropics: Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday and a major hurricane over the weekend. The current forecast track indicates no direct impact on the Caribbean Islands, and the storm is expected to gradually turn right as it moves north of Puerto Rico.
