Watching Tropical Storm Erin

A hot and humid week is taking shape as drier air moves into our area, limiting our afternoon showers and storms. Afternoon highs will trend toward the 90s this week with Feels Like temperatures around 102 - 106 degrees.

Scattered showers with storms will return Thursday, continuing through the weekend as the wind shifts to a northeasterly flow.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Erin will continue strengthening over the warm waters of the Atlantic.

Tonight: Inland showers and storms, between Highway 301 and I-75. Warm, dry and muggy.

Tuesday: Patchy fog under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. A muggy start to the day with morning lows in the 70s. Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly cloudy as the sea breezes push inland. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will be higher west of the St. Johns River, 30-50 percent, mainly after 2 p.m. Afternoon highs in the low to mid 90s inland, upper 80s to low 90s along our beaches. Wind: south, becoming southeast during the afternoon at 5 - 15 mph.

Looking ahead: Hot with limited showers and storms through Wednesday. Rain chances increase Thursday through the weekend.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to become a hurricane by mid-week and a major hurricane this weekend. The current forecast track does not directly impact the Caribbean Islands and the storm is expected to slowly turn right as it moves north of Puerto Rico.
