The Weather Authority was tracking scattered thunderstorms Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will peak in the upper 80s to low 90s, but with high humidity, it may feel closer to or just above 100°F.
Skies remain intermittently cloudy, and isolated storms could pop up. Make sure to stay hydrated and limit prolonged sun exposure during peak heat hours.
By late afternoon and early evening, storm chances increase, with thunderstorms likely. Some of these storms could bring gusty winds, lightning, and brief heavy rain.
Temperatures gradually fall back into the mid-80s as the sun dips low.
Overnight, conditions calm down. Thunderstorm activity tapers off, giving way to partly cloudy skies and a mild, humid night with lows around 79°F.
It’s a more comfortable finish after an active and steamy day in the city.
Tracking the tropics
Tropical Storm Dexter formed on Sunday, but it’s expected to move away from the U.S. coast and stay north of Bermuda, so there is no threat from this storm.
According to the National Hurricane Center, as of 5 a.m. Monday, Dexter was moving east-northeast at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
The NHC is also tracking two other areas of interest in the Atlantic.
A tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa on Monday with some gradual development possible. A tropical depression could form late this week while it moves generally west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance over the next week is about 50%.
Off the Southeastern United States, there is a broad area of low pressure forecast to form in a couple of days. Some gradual development of this system is possible during the middle or latter part of the week as the system drifts to the west or northwest. Formation chance over the next week is about 30%.
