Hot Friday, increasing rain chances this weekend

It is clear, warm and quiet. Temperatures will continue to hover above seasonal averages tonight and early Friday morning. Morning lows this time of year should be around 74-76 degrees. Overnight lows will be around 76 - 81 degrees.

A lucky few will saw showers today and a similar pattern is setting up for tomorrow. A Heat Advisory will be widespread Friday as afternoon showers and storms remain limited.

The dry pattern comes to an end this weekend as waves of rain will move across a stalling cold front. The pattern begins to develop on Saturday afternoon and will continue through most of the day Sunday. Currently, all models have the highest rainfall totals over southeast Georgia, at 2 - 4 inches with some areas receiving up to 6 inches through late Sunday night.

Friday: Heat Advisory 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Mostly sunny skies will become partly cloudy as afternoon highs sizzle near 100 degrees. A slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible after 2 p.m., 20 - 30 percent. Morning lows in the 70s and low 80s. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s inland, low 90s along the beaches. Heat Index temperatures up to 112 degrees will be possible. Wind SW/SE 5 - 15 mph.

Looking ahead: The weekend forecast will bring widespread rain with thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible across the area with the highest amounts across southeast Georgia. Strong to isolated severe storms with locally heavy rainfall, gusty wind and lightning will be the main hazards.

Tropics: No tropical activity is expected for the next 7 days.
