Another heat advisory today as dangerous conditions continue

Weekend storm chances and tips to beat the heat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Weather Authority is keeping a close eye on Jacksonville as the area continues to experience extreme heat, with a heat advisory in place for nearly every neighborhood until at least 7 p.m.

Temperatures were already hitting 76 degrees early in the morning, with places like Orange Park pushing close to 80 degrees. And the sticky, windless conditions aren’t making things any easier.

The difference between “extreme heat warning” and “heat advisory” means little for daily comfort.

If you step outside midday, you’re still going to feel like you’re in the hundreds.

Morning hours offer a small window of relief, with plenty of locals choosing to get their walks in early before the mercury climbs.

Slight relief and possible storms

Looking ahead, the forecast calls for a few changes as we get closer to the weekend.

A low-pressure system is expected to move in, bringing some much-needed moisture and knocking those high temperatures down—from the upper 90s into the low 90s.

While that shift may not sound dramatic, the drop from 99 degrees to the low 90s could finally start to feel closer to what you’d call “average” for this time of year.

News4JAX’s Exact Track 4D radar predicts scattered thunderstorms and pop-up showers, especially for inland neighborhoods.

The coast is likely to stay clearer, with storms packing a punch mainly elsewhere—just like they did the previous day.

How to stay safe: Tips for beating the heat

Staying hydrated and avoiding the outdoors during peak midday heat are key.

It might sound repetitive, but these reminders matter—the high feels-like temperatures will hang near the hundreds for much of the day.

If you’re a pet owner or a parent, get those walks and playground time in before conditions ramp up.

Beachgoers should also note an elevated rip current risk in select spots, and the playground forecast showed temperatures peaking at 98 degrees by late morning.

As always, know your body and listen to the signs of heat stress.
