Rain returns this weekend

Thunderstorms have moved offshore, while a few stray showers are fading near and along the River.

It was another steamy summer afternoon in the River City. Afternoon highs reached 98 degrees at JAX.

Near record highs will continue through Friday with highs near 100 degrees. Rain chances will be limited through Friday and then increase this weekend.

Thursday: Heat Advisory 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Mostly sunny skies will become partly cloudy as afternoon highs soar to above seasonal levels. A slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible after 2 p.m., 20 - 40 percent. Morning lows in the 70s and low 80s. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s inland, low 90s along the beaches. Heat Index temperatures up to 113 degrees will be possible. Wind SW/SE 5 - 15 mph.

Looking ahead: The weekend forecast brings an increasing chance of rain and thunderstorms along with cooler temperatures. With an earlier start to the rain on Sunday, afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s.

Tropics: No tropical activity is expected for the next 7 days.
