Jacksonville is waking up to another muggy morning, with sticky air and plenty of humidity making it tough to stay comfortable.

Temperatures early this morning hovered in the mid-70s, creeping upward toward 80 degrees before sunrise, as seen on the station’s Exact Track 4D graphics.

High humidity is once again the star of the show, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

With temperatures expected to climb quickly, folks across the area will experience “triple-digit” heat indices, making it feel even hotter than it appears on the thermometer.

Forecast: Rainfall and storms returning

While Gulf moisture has been letting up a bit this morning, rain chances are expected to ramp back up—especially as we go into tomorrow.

For most of today, rain will be limited mainly to the north near Georgia and will gradually sweep into the Jacksonville area by the afternoon, generally between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The heaviest downpours are likely to arrive later, as high pressure that’s keeping much of the rain at bay shifts westward.

By then, heavier showers are forecast for spots like Orange Park, Waycross, and Valdosta, with rainfall accumulations over the next five days expected to reach about a half inch on the coast and up to an inch and a half near Orange Park.

It’s not expected to be a washout, but if you find yourself under a passing shower, it could be briefly heavy.

This summer-like pattern—hot, humid, and prone to pop-up storms—isn’t anything out of the ordinary for Jacksonville this time of year.

Impact on activities

Long days, high UV levels, and warm beach water mean a few extra things to keep in mind.

Sunscreen is a must if you’re headed to the coast, but swimmers should be cautious, as there is a moderate rip current risk today. It’s a good idea to stay off the coast if you’re unsure about the water.

High temperatures are expected to hold steady in the low to mid-90s across Jacksonville and nearby towns through the weekend.

Rain chances will continue through the rest of the work week and into Saturday and Sunday, with showers most likely to develop during the warmest parts of the afternoon.

Parents planning park or playground time can expect mostly cloudy skies, temperatures quickly climbing from 89 degrees at noon to around 93 degrees by 3 p.m., and increasing rain chances each afternoon.
