Season’s first tropical storm — Andrea — forms in the Atlantic; poses no land threat

Andrea, the first tropical storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane seson will stay at sea.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – The National Hurricane Center has begun issuing advisories on the first tropical storm of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Tropical Storm Andrea has finally managed to sustain thunderstorms long enough to earn its name but it will be a very short lived storm.

Andrea is located in the central Atlantic, roughly 1,200 miles west of the Azores, with maximum winds of 40 miles per hour. The storm is expected to weaken and dissipate within the next 36 hours and poses no threat to land.

Andrea has likely already peaked in strength. It is moving into cooler waters near 70 degrees and encountering increasing wind shear — both of which will prevent further development and disrupt its organization.
