Jacksonville’s summer weather pattern: Heat and scattered showers ahead
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s shaping up to be another classic summer week in the Jacksonville area, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and humidity sticking around.
The region kicked off Monday with calm and mild conditions—morning temperatures ranged from 73 degrees at JAX Airport to 78 degrees in Mayport, and skies were mostly clear.
By the afternoon, those heat and humidity levels are expected to bring on scattered showers and possible rumbles of thunder. The Weather Authority forecasts highs around 92 degrees today and 93 degrees on Tuesday, with rain chances increasing during peak heating. The meteorologist stresses that while it’s hot and sticky, daily shower chances are generally under 60 percent for most of the area, which means it’s not likely to be a washout for your plans.
This pattern of afternoon pop-up showers and intense heat is expected to stick around for the next few days and well into the week.
Localized rain chances: What to expect in your neighborhood
Not everyone will see rain every afternoon, but some communities are more likely than others to get a good soak. According to the meteorologist, Jacksonville and Brunswick both have about a 30 percent chance of rain later today, with forecast highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville have a slightly higher chance, around 40 percent. If you’re in Palatka or Keystone Heights, the chance of showers is much more likely—up to 70 percent—with highs around 90 or 91 degrees. Middleburg is expected to be one of the hotter spots, with a high near 94 degrees but a lower rain risk.
The best chance for showers runs from about 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Although some thunder is possible, the meteorologist says these storms are forecast to stay non-severe. So, if a quick shower rolls through, just take a brief break and head back outside when it passes.
Heat safety, beach advice, and the extended forecast
Plan on keeping cool—heat is expected to remain the big weather story. According to Exact Track 4D, the area is looking at a run of days with highs in the low to mid-90s. Overnight temps should stay warm, averaging around 73 degrees.
Thinking of heading to the beach? The Weather Authority highlights a moderate rip current risk, so safer swimming choices are recommended, especially for those not confident in the water. Afternoon showers may interrupt beach outings, but these are likely to be brief.
The same summer pattern is expected to stretch into at least early next week, with highs staying in the 90s and some chance of afternoon storms each day. The meteorologist notes that this could change as the weekend approaches, but for now, no severe weather is on the horizon—just the usual summer thunder and rain.
