Showers stick around for Father’s Day, but summer sun is on the horizon

Bouts of heavy rain and storms continue early in the week, with warmer, sunnier days expected by midweek

Sunday Futurecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Expect showers and stormy weather to affect our southern counties in Northeast Florida around lunchtime and into the afternoon before meandering into Southeast Georgia. Gusty winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning will be the main hazards today.

Saturday’s rainy weather brought heavy rains to Nassau County, and the same pattern is expected to persist today as southwesterly winds collide with the Atlantic sea breeze.

Relief on the horizon: More sun, lower rain chances by midweek

By mid-week, there is a relief from the stormy weather as the east coast sea breeze becomes more dominant. Still looking at 30-40% coverage, but overall nicer afternoons.

Friday is the first day of summer, and the forecast will continue to showcase the high heat, high humidity, and heat index of 100-105.

Overnight lows hold steady in the low-to-mid 70s across the area. After the midweek lull, rain chances are expected to slowly increase again with the return of higher heat heading into next weekend.
