SE GA Severe Weather Risk Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As the hot and humid conditions continue throughout our region, a system located north of our area is expected to bring a slight risk of severe weather to Southeast Georgia and areas north of I-10 after lunchtime.

The main threat is severe thunderstorms with damaging winds of up to 60 mph, along with frequent lightning and heavy downpours, which are expected to begin after 1 p.m.

SE GA Sunday Forecast

According to the SPC, a slight risk means scattered severe storms are likely, but they would be short-lived and/or widespread, and isolated intense storms are possible.

SPC Risks

The criteria for a Weather Authority Alert Day occur when the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) issues a Slight to Moderate Risk for all or part of our region. Additional factors include watches (such as Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings) that are likely to be issued, particularly for Sunday afternoon. Damaging winds exceeding 40 mph are also a concern.

In Northeast Florida, Sunday will be another day of hot and humid conditions with temperatures moving quickly into the mid-90s with a heat index of 100-105.

Be sure to stay hydrated and stay cool between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. if you are susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
