A mild start to Friday with a few pop-up showers on the way

. (.)

Good morning, friends! Here in Jacksonville, we’re waking up to a warm and muggy start on this Friday.

Temperatures are climbing quickly under a mix of sun and clouds. Highs this afternoon will reach the low 90s inland, while the sea breeze will keep the coast slightly cooler in the upper 80s.

BOY is it muggy outside, that humidity is high, and that’s pushing the heat index into the triple digits by this afternoon. Make sure to drink a ton of water if you’re spending time outdoors.

Scattered thunderstorms are likely to bubble up inland during the late afternoon and early evening.

Some of these storms could produce brief downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning before gradually tapering off after sunset.

Coastal areas will likely see less activity thanks to the stabilizing influence of the Atlantic sea breeze.

Tonight, skies will gradually clear with overnight lows dropping into the mid-70s.

Looking ahead to the weekend, more typical summertime weather is on tap with hot, humid afternoons and a daily chance of inland thunderstorms, especially Saturday.

Sunday looks slightly drier but still steamy, so plan on timing outdoor plans around possible pop-up storms.
