JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Increasing clouds will keep temps just below 90 today. We’ll feel humid with the chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.
Wednesday is still on track for an overall wet day as rounds of rain move through the area. Cloud cover will keep the temperatures in the mid-80s on both Wednesday and Thursday.
We can’t rule out an isolated thunderstorm, but conditions aren’t leaning toward severe weather.
It will be very breezy at the beaches with an onshore easterly wind. Thursday will be more of the same.
The non-tropical system in the Atlantic has a 10% chance of developing, and if so, it won’t be a factor as it moves to the north and east of the coastline. Regardless, the wet pattern continues to move from the south to the north over the next few days.
Our biggest threat: Heavy rains could cause localized flooding. By the end of the week, beach communities could see 2-4 inches of rainfall, while inland areas could see up to 2 inches. Increasing rip current risk is also a factor.
Beach safety precautions
While today’s sea breeze may keep much of the rain away from area beaches, it brings with it a higher risk for rip currents along the Atlantic coast.
Beachgoers are advised to use extra caution and swim near a lifeguard as these hazardous surf conditions develop.
It’s a great idea to keep safety top of mind if your plans include sand and surf.
Extended rainy pattern
Looking ahead, the 7-day forecast predicts steady rain chances through Thursday—expect a 70% chance on Wednesday and 60% chance Thursday—before a turn toward drier and hotter weather for the weekend.
By Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb to 94 and 93 degrees, respectively, with the heat sticking around into next week. Low temperatures stay comfortable in the lower 70s.
