Rip current risk, hot, rainy week ahead as hurricane season begins

Above average temperatures return, rip current risks

MODERATE RIP CURRENT RISK

Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida have a moderate rip current risk through Tuesday. Regardless of your swimming ability a current can quickly pull you into the ocean and it can be deadly. Swim near lifeguard stands or stay out of the ocean if you can not swim.

SUNDAY EVENING FORECAST

Temperatures will drop into the low 70s and upper 60s with mostly cloudy skies as winds shift from the south and southwest. Rain is not in the forecast.

SAHARAN DUST HEADED TO FLORIDA

As the Saharan Dust makes its way from Africa and across the Atlantic, it could impact Florida in multiple ways. Specifically, the Saharan Air Layer can suppress tropical cyclone development. The layer has characteristics of warm, dry air with strong winds. It can also suppress cloud development and storms. As it looms for the next couple of days you may notice a hazy white look during the day in the sky and an orange glow during sunsets.

If you are vulnerable to respiratory issues such as asthma or chronic lung disease, you could be more vulnerable and impacted by the dust exposure.
