Storms ending, skies clearing, more to come Thursday, Friday

Sunny and seasonal weekend

RAIN CHANCES (.)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Update: 9:25 pm The storms have ended for inland areas as they slowly move over the Atlantic waters. If you are close enough to the beaches, enjoy the light show.

After reviewing the storm reports for tonight, I have found nothing to indicate Severe Storms. The highest wind recorded was at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport of 45 mph. Severe wind is considered 58 or higher. The largest hail reported, by a retired National Weather Service employee, was 0.70 inch. Severe hail is considered 1.0 inch or larger.

The rain totals due to the slow-moving storms were impressive. Many areas received at least an inch near and along I-95 with Duval, northern St. Johns and Flagler counties picking up more than two inches of rain and prompting Flood Advisories.

More to come as a cold front will move south on Thursday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. The unsettled pattern persists on Friday, with rain coverage increasing across the forecast area both days. Strong to isolated thunderstorms may occur as the cold front passes through each day.
