Sunday’s highs to soar into the 90s, the record high from 1899 might melt away

Sunday forecast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another hot, mostly sunny day is ahead with temperatures close to record-breaking highs. Yesterday’s clouds and wind kept temperatures below the record, but still managed to reach 93. A slight chance of rainy-to-stormy weather continues for the very northern area of our Southeast Georgia counties; otherwise, conditions remain dry.

The record high for today is 96, set in 1899! The weather pattern is ripe for a tie-breaker or beyond this afternoon as dry air continues to dominate in Northeast Florida.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville reported that the record of 97 set on Friday was the second earliest on record in a calendar year to reach that mark. The previous date was May 12, 1967. Typically, the average date to reach the upper 90s is June 16.

The next chance of measurable rain for our region is Wednesday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves through.
