Welcome back, rain!

Showers and storms return this weekend

Sundays front will boost the rain coverage during the afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – After a stretch of dry weather, we’re finally seeing a change — and for some, it’s a welcome one. Scattered showers have all but pushed away tonight. A heavy thunderstorm soaked Amelia Island and it has moved into the Atlantic.

While activity will taper off this evening, don’t put the umbrella away just yet.

Rain chances return late overnight as light showers and thunderstorms redevelop and move in from the west. Most of the activity will be after 2 a.m. Another round of rain comes tomorrow morning, when you may wake up to damp roads and a few rumbles of thunder early Sunday.

Tomorrow:

Afternoon: As the sun heats things up, so does the atmosphere. Expect showers and storms to become more widespread. Near the coast, a few stronger storms could develop — these may bring gusty winds and even some small hail, thanks to just enough wind shear and instability to stir things up.

Evening: Storm activity will start to wind down by sunset, especially in the eastern and southeastern counties, as drier air moves in behind the front.

Night: Skies begin to clear inland, setting the stage for some patchy fog — particularly in Marion, Putnam, and Alachua counties. Overnight lows will dip into the low to mid-60s across Northeast Florida.

Temperatures: Highs will climb into the lower to mid-80s.

Monday: Quieter, but Not Completely Dry

The weakened front lingers over Northeast Florida, but it’s losing steam. A few stray showers or storms are still possible, mostly in the northern part of the state. Overall, Monday will feel drier and calmer compared to Sunday.

Temperatures: Highs stay consistent in the lower to mid-80s.
