After weeks of sun, the forecast calls for change

Showers return to the forecast

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – Tonight will be dry with lows ranging from the mid to upper 60s at the coast to the lower to mid-60s inland.

Saturday will be relatively dry until the late afternoon, when showers may develop area-wide. Stronger thunderstorms are possible in southeast Georgia Saturday night.

It’s been three weeks since we last had rain in Jacksonville. Hopefully, with this front coming into the area, we can get some much-needed rainfall in at least a few areas through Sunday. A cold front will then move slowly southeast across the area late Sunday through Monday.

Highs in the upper 80s to near 90 are expected, with surface winds averaging from south to southwest up to 10-15 mph. Showers are possible overnight into Sunday morning as a cold front moves into the area.

Rain will decrease early in the week before showers increase. From Wednesday to Thursday, there are opportunities for precipitation with a lingering frontal boundary over north Florida and south Georgia and some possible disturbances aloft as the flow will be mainly zonal.

Models disagree on the timing and intensity of this activity. For now, it is just showing low-end chances of showers and storms around the 20-40 percent range.
