JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While there is a chance for much-needed rain today, the Opening of the Beaches parade in Jacksonville Beach at 2:00 p.m. will be dry and warm with breezy winds out of the east. That easterly wind will also keep the hazardous rip current risk in the high range.
The approaching front will affect Southeast Georgia by 3:00 p.m. This system will have thunderstorm potential while providing long-overdue rain. Along with thunderstorms, heavy downpours, gusty winds, and small hail are always a possibility. Due to the afternoon sea breeze, the front will likely stall at the Florida/Georgia border, keeping the beaches and areas south of I-10 on the dry side. After sunset, chances for rain increase across Northeast Florida. The coastal areas could see heavier rain overnight into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Jacksonville office, Saturday, April 26 marked the 15th consecutive day without measurable rainfall at the Jacksonville International Airport. Below is a list of the longest stretches without measurable rainfall over the past decade. The current streak was the longest during the month of April, since 4/7 to 4/30 of 2017, over the past decade.
Temperatures return to the normal range through the end of April. May will usher in the 90s before another rain opportunity moves in on Saturday.
