PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Kids who struggle with reading and learning disabilities may feel helpless and discouraged. Thankfully, there’s a local center ready to make a difference. The Morris Center is dedicated to transforming lives through a unique and comprehensive approach to treating and preventing learning disabilities.

Robin L. Edge, PhD, CCC-SLP, Chief Clinical Operations Officer at The Morris Center in Ponte Vedra Beach, explains the science behind the Center’s success, “to see such powerful work based on real true science not pretending to be science, but legitimate science is so powerful. Using methodology that’s been researched over 30 years ... we see great work with our students at all of our clinics and online.”

Tim Conway, PhD, President at The Morris Center is also a developer on an exciting new learning app, LipLetter Land, which is available for iPhones in the App Store for a small fee and soon for Android users, and geared towards new readers beginning at age 4. LipLetter Land is centered around The Science of Reading, which is an interdisciplinary body of research that explores how children learn to read, emphasizing evidence-based practices such as phonics, phonemic awareness and fluency to improve literacy outcomes

Dr. Conway explains how the app is “designed for any kid anywhere in the world that want to have stronger literacy skills. It’s not a dyslexia app. It’s an any kid-make-literacy-stronger app. Dyslexic kids are at risk and so they’re probably struggling, they’ll get stronger.

“Kids who are typically developing are not at risk, but they’ll get stronger too because they’re getting more explicit training on how to make sure that system is really rock solid and then it makes it easier to learn new letters.”

The Morris Center will be hosting a Hop Into Family Fun event at their Ponte Vedra Beach location on Saturday, April 12 beginning at 10 a.m. This event will offer FREE Occupational Therapy Screenings for kids ages 6 to 10. Registration is required.
