JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As a cold front approaches our area from the southwest, be prepared for severe weather to impact your afternoon later today.
Severe weather means there’s a chance of damaging winds, heavy downpours, hail and isolated tornadoes. A majority of the severe weather will be near I-10 and Southeast Georgia.
Thunderstorms will begin around 1 p.m. and continue through midnight. Temperatures will peak at 80 degrees with winds increasing at the same time into the teens. Winds will continue from the southeast.
TIMELINE FOR POTENTIAL SEVERE STORMS
The leading edge of the storm will approach around 1 p.m. from the northwest.
Thunderstorms will begin in Southeast Georgia around 2 p.m.
By 6 p.m., thunderstorms will be in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida.
Once the sun sets tonight, the storm will weaken and eventually dissipate while moving offshore by 11 p.m.
Winds out of the southwest will be 10-15 mph with gusts up to or over 20 mph. Damaging winds, hail, and an isolated tornado are possible along with this frontal system.
Expected rainfall totals vary from .5″ to over 1″. Low-lying areas that are prone to flooding should take precautions.
