Within the first hour and a half hour after sunset, you can see four planets without a telescope.
Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn will shine beautifully in the evening. While there are clear skies, take advantage of this beautiful view. You can also see the planets more vividly with a telescope or a sky app on your phone.
First, step outside and face the south. Then look up about 60 degrees to the left or east into the sky. You will see what appears to be an orange planet, it’s Mars. Then, move to the right or west, until your body is facing south again, and look up just above your head and you will see Jupiter. If you shift your body to the west and then shift about 30 degrees to the right and 45 degrees up, you will see Venus and Saturn next to one another.
The video below helps you find these four planets.
According to NASA, you can also see Uranus and Neptune but you will need a telescope.
You can use a stargazing app on your phone to see the planets.
You can see the planets through mid-February.
