JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Frigid temperatures and a wintry mix are possible in our area next week after rain moves through Northeast Florida this weekend.

Depending on where you live in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, you may get rain, freezing rain, sleet, or snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, and this isn’t the first time.
Around the same time about seven years ago, Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida were also bundled for winter.

On Jan. 3, 2018, snow could be seen in Waycross, Alma, Baxley, Blackshear, Patterson, Nahunta and other pockets around Georgia. Alma residents told News4Jax they hadn’t seen snowfall in about seven years.
Counties shut down and bridges were closed. Back then, News4JAX met a local farmer, now politician Dean Black.
His cattle farm was covered with freezing rain hanging from the trees in northern Duval County.
In Lake City, there were weather warnings for ice.
Depending on how much warm or cold air is in the atmosphere, determines if you’ll see rain, sleet, freezing rain or snow.
With this forecast, snow totals range from a tenth of an inch in Jacksonville to five inches in Waycross.
Back in 2018, Duval County shut down but it didn’t get the widespread freezing rain it was expecting. There was just rain and frigid temperatures.
This weekend will be deceiving leading up to the wintry mix in the low 70s and upper 60s. By Monday morning we’re dropping into the low 30s.
