Freeze Warning and an expanded Frost Advisory

Possible Hard Freeze Thursday

. (.)

The Frost Advisory has been expanded for coastal counties.

A Freeze Warning will start at 12 a.m. and continue through 9 a.m. Wednesday. A Frost Advisory has also been extended for our coastal counties in NEFL from 1 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The Frost Advisories extends from the St. Johns River to the beaches.

The cold air continues with the potential for a Hard Freeze across inland areas on Thursday morning. Rain chances will increase late Friday night as another cold front approaches.

Below normal temperatures continue through the weekend.

Tonight: Clearing, cold and windy. Windchill values are in the upper 20s!

Wednesday: A Freeze Warning from midnight - 9 a.m. Sunny skies with below-normal temperatures continue. Morning lows are expected to be in the upper 20s to low 30s inland, and upper 30s to low 40s along the sandy showers. Afternoon highs in the 50s. Wind: NW 5-10 mph.

Thursday: Cold morning temperatures with Hard Freeze conditions possible. Another cold front arrives Friday with increasing rain chances.

Exercise caution and take safety measures when placing space heaters and when using a fireplace.

Protect those Ps!

People: Dress in layers. Try to stay out of the wind. Be a good neighbor and check on young children and the elderly as they are the most sensitive to cold weather. If the temperature cannot be maintained at home, make temporary arrangements to stay elsewhere, including in shelters or with friends and family.

Pets: Bring outdoor pets inside or give them a warm shelter to stay in.

Plants: Cover cold-sensitive plants to protect them from cold temperatures and frost. Cloth blankets and frost blankets are best. Try to avoid plastic sheets as covers.

Pipes: Cover pipes and allow outdoor faucets to drip slowly to prevent them from freezing and breaking. If you have a pump house, ensure it is covered or insulated. We used to leave a lamp with a bright light on in our pumphouse for added heat and protection.

Pools: Leave the pump on all night or shut it off and leave it off until the temperatures are above freezing.

Practice Fire Safety: Use safe heating sources indoors. Do not use fuel-burning devices such as grills; they release carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. Also, use space heaters as directed in the instructions and make sure they are away from beds, furniture, and blankets.

Sunrise: 7:24 a.m. Sunset: 5:42 p.m.
