Warm and dry days ahead

Where are the April Showers?

. (.)

The forecast remains dry as warmer weather settles in for the season. Low humidity and a nice breeze make for pleasant days, but our plants are feeling parched. Where are the April showers?

So far this month we have received 2.05 inches which is up from last year’s 1.98 inches. A normal value is 2.33 inches leaving a deficit for April of 0.28 of an inch.

A month ago the story was different. March was a wet month. The total was almost 8 inches while the average is closer to 6 inches. That left a surplus of more than 2 inches.

Starting at the beginning of the year we see that 2024 started soggy as well. The total since January 1 is 14.2 inches exceeding the average of 11.8 inches. That gives us about 2.5 inches of rain in the bucket.

Looking ahead, the dry pattern will continue through the rest of the week and the weekend. That makes it easy when making plans, but don’t forget about your blooms and blossoms.
