Once known as ‘Confederate Park,’ Springfield Park at center of Jacksonville monument debate
Springfield is one of the oldest and most historic parts of Jacksonville, and as a result, it’s been at the center of one of the most divisive debates in the city’s history. Specifically, Confederate monuments. What was once known as “Confederate Park” is now known simply as Springfield Park, which held monuments to the Confederacy for decades, with the most notable and biggest being the women of the Southern Confederacy monument.
