Man dies after driving wrong way on Beach Boulevard, crossing median, slamming SUV into window of remodeling store: FHP

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 69-year-old man died early Friday morning after crashing his SUV into a large window in the front of a business building on Beach Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man was actually driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard at Beachwood Court around 1 a.m., but then crossed the median back into the eastbound lanes, drove across the roadway and kept going off the road.

According to the crash report, the man drove through the parking lot of Woodsman Kitchens and Floors and then slammed into a large window in the front of the remodeling store.

A large piece of plywood was later placed over the hole.

The SUV’s path through the parking lot was visible because of tire marks and knocked over bushes. News4JAX also spotted some debris, a front fender and damaged pipes near the median, where troopers say the man crossed over at the intersection with Beachwood Court.

Troopers said the man was wearing a seat belt. He died at the hospital.

No other cars were involved in the crash.
