If you’re planning to hit the beach for the 4th of July weekend, you’re not alone. However, if Fernandina Beach is your destination, you’ll want to watch out for traffic.
Starting Friday, Seaside Park will be closed off to traffic because of the renourishment project that’s underway at the beach.
The project has been in the works since May, and the US Army Corps tells me they tried to put a pause on the project during the 4th of July weekend, but couldn’t.

Starting this Friday, there will be no parking or driving from Seaside Park all the way down to Saddler Road.
But you can still walk the area, so beachgoers can still enjoy the sand and surf — just be prepared to hoof it a little farther than usual.
And let’s be honest — 4th of July weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for local beaches.
With parking already tight, this closure is likely to cause some serious crowding.
If you’re heading this way, get here early, consider carpooling, or use a rideshare.
The closure is expected to last two to three weeks. But the good news?
Once this phase wraps up, the Army Corps says they’re done until the next scheduled renourishment.
