FHP said a Chevrolet Equinox carrying the people from Hilliard was driving south on U.S. 17, attempting to pass in the northbound lane.

A tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on U.S. 17 and the Equinox struck the front of the semi-truck around 10 a.m.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Parts of U.S. 17 were shut down in both directions at Goodbread Road in Yulee because of the crash, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were redirecting traffic at the scene. Drivers were turned around at U.S. 17 and County Road 108.

As of 3 p.m., lanes were still closed, according to FHP’s traffic map.
