Man dies in Columbia County when he loses control of pickup truck, veers into cars in oncoming lanes: FHP

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 35-year-old man from Lake City was killed Monday morning when he lost control on a curve in Columbia County and hit a car and a pick-up truck in the oncoming lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers reported that the man was driving a pick-up truck south on County Road 245 around 6:50 a.m. when he lost control on the curve and crossed into the northbound lanes near SE Robert Cox Terrace.

He sideswiped a car, sending it into the east ditch along CR 245, then hit another pick-up truck head-on, troopers said.

The 35-year-old, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

The 37-year-old man driving the car and the 64-year-old man driving the second pick-up truck were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
