Woman dead, passenger injured after colliding with multiple trees at Clay County intersection

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A woman died and a passenger had minor injuries after colliding with multiple trees on US-17 and Crowl Road in Clay County on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officials said on Friday at 10:45 a.m., the driver was traveling south in the right lane of US-17. The vehicle crossed the center median, entered the northbound lanes, and then veered off the road onto the east shoulder, where it struck several trees.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital where she died.

FHP said the passenger sustained minor injuries. It is unclear whether either of them were wearing seatbelts. Both individuals were residents of Palatka.
