The Mandarin boys track and field team used a pair of individual championships to finish as Class 4A state runner-up as the state meet wrapped up on a busy and wet Saturday night at UNF’s Hodges Stadium.

Creekside graduate and two-time All-News4JAX track and field athlete of the year Christian Miller announced on Friday morning that he is bound for the professional running circuit.

Christian Miller had a goal — be the best sprinter ever from Florida. After a summer unlike any other, the Creekside graduate and now two-time All-News4JAX boys track and field athlete of the year, can realistically say that he may be just that.

Christian Miller, fresh out of high school, put on a dazzling showing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday night, but missed out on qualifying for the Games by the blink of an eye.

Christian Miller ran a 10.22 in the 100-meter dash at the US Olympic Team Trials on Saturday night in Eugene, Oregon, finishing fifth in his heat and advancing to the semifinals.

It was a strong start at the state track and field championships in Jacksonville for a host of area athletes.
