Officials in South Florida say a 3-year-old was fatally shot at an extended stay hotel.

City officials had the idea for the award last month and plans to honor deputies on a semiannual basis. After the ceremony, Tamarac Commissioner Mike Gelin congratulated all the officers, and called Gallardo back down. CNN has asked Gallardo and the Broward County Sheriff's Office for comment on the arrest, but has not heard back from them. The sheriff's office said the man was a documented gang member who had been deported from the US in 2015. The Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies Association is calling for a boycott of Gelin's employee benefits company.
