The city of Jacksonville and Blackwater Development, Regency Square Mall's new owners, have reached an agreement to lower the fines incurred on the building and get it up to code.

The Regency Square Mall was once a “gem of all shopping centers” in Jacksonville but became “the bane of community complaints,” and its sale was “well overdue,” says City Councilman Ken Amaro.

The Regency Square Mall, once a bustling staple for the Arlington community, is entering a new chapter — starting with a new name.

Sporting Club Jacksonville, United Soccer League’s Northeast Florida expansion franchise, made forward steps Thursday to bring a soccer team to the city.

The Regency Square Mall, a once thriving part of the Arlington community, now continues to hope for better days ahead.

Community members said they are excited to hear about the potential plans to demolish and redevelop the Regency Square Mall.

Major parts of Regency Square Mall could be demolished and redeveloped with multifamily housing, retail, entertainment and other uses when the largely vacant mall is sold, according to News4JAX news partner the Jacksonville Daily Record.

The ownership group working to bring professional soccer to Jacksonville is considering the closed Sears site at the Regency Square Mall for development of a new stadium facility, according to News4JAX news partner the Jacksonville Daily Record.

News4JAX has learned the company interested in purchasing the Regency Square Mall after its current management of the shopping center put the mall up for sale after nine years of ownership.

The city of Jacksonville has issued more than $3,000 in fines to the current owners of the Regency Square Mall in a three-year span, because of the deteriorating conditions of the building, News4JAX has learned.

When you walk through Regency Square Mall, you won’t see many shoppers or open stores. But what you might see instead is the maze of trash cans catching water from the leaking roofs.

The owners of Regency Square Mall — Namdar Realty Group and Mason Asset Management — announced Monday they are selling the shopping center they bought in 2014, the Jacksonville Daily Record reported.

Sunday was the last day that COVID-19 testing was offered at the state-run Regency Square Mall site, the Florida Department of Health in Duval County said.

Now that everyone 16 and older can get the COVID-19 vaccine, there is a new push by the federal government to get people to roll up their sleeves.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida opened up COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone age 60 and up on Monday. The latest Florida Department of Health statistics show that statewide, 4,252,250 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. AdDavid Cox, who got a shot at the vaccination site at Gateway Mall, said it’s time to lower the age requirement even more. But he said they should not wait and he believes the Gateway Mall site should be opened up to all age groups now. The Gateway Mall site is expected to be open until May 3.

After state emergency management officials acknowledged that school personnel were eligible to get vaccinated at federal clinics in Jacksonville, among other major cities, college professors and staff still weren’t clear if the order included them. While the state has yet to provide a clear answer to that question, college instructors were not turned away from a COVID-19 shot Friday at the federal vaccine clinic in Jacksonville. Unlike Florida’s executive order, the federal directive does not single out K-12 educators as the only group eligible to get the vaccine. Tara Jackson, a 50-year-old literacy specialist for the school district, said her colleagues were excited to learn there was one location where all school personnel could go to be vaccinated. During a news conference Friday, the governor said he has no intention of making other professions eligible for the vaccine in his order.

Over the last two weeks, the Regency site has let seniors and health care workers walk up and get vaccinated. Beginning Wednesday, according to the association, the site will offer shots to school employees, law enforcement officers and firefighters age 50 -- no appointment necessary. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man died after a single-vehicle crash Friday night near the Regency area, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Police said a truck struck a metal JEA pole and a man was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man, who was described as being about 50 years old, died at the hospital, police said. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.
