JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department engineer could lose his job after he was arrested on accusations that he beat his girlfriend, a city spokeswoman confirmed Friday. The victim said Callahan, her boyfriend of six months, beat her up the night before, according to his arrest report. She told deputies he was drunk when she picked him up at home and he grew more intoxicated as they stopped at multiple bars that night. AdDeputies found blood on Callahan’s front door, which looked like it had been kicked in, according to the report. He told deputies the victim hit and cut herself and suggested that his injuries might have happened while defending himself.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville firefighter has been reassigned after the city discovered inflammatory statements posted on social media. According to a city spokeswoman, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was made aware of at least one social media post by veteran firefighter Anthony Treadwell last week. The city did not say what post was being investigated, but Twitter users flagged several posts from a Twitter account that used the name Anthony Treadwell. The same Twitter account also hinted at a connection to the Florida Proudboys, an organization designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to a LinkedIn profile, Treadwell is a lieutenant and has been with JFRD for more than 17 years.

Fourth of July fireworks in Jacksonville will still go on as planned, despite a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. The city-sponsored Independence Day fireworks will take off from six locations in whats planned to be Jacksonvilles largest display ever. We are prepared to act if theres an urgent need to act, said Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham about beaches being open. This isnt over, said UF Health infectious disease expert Chad Neilsen, who holds a masters degree in public health. The city of Jacksonville will launch fireworks from six locations this 4th of July.

According to the city, there are four open cases regarding the property:Unsafe Structure: Cited property for uncompleted construction without an active permit, and various other structural/safety issues. Commercial: Cited property for damaged fencing. Each of these cases is in the notification stage of the process, Kimbleton said.

"My understanding for the plans for Met Park is they are being developed, possibly into retail and or an entertainment district. So any plan to reduce the size of Met Park is going to prevent Rockville from being able to come back, CEO Danny Hayes said. While the promoter said it doesn't see Welcome to Rockville returning to Jacksonville, they do plan on bringing another event to town. "Yeah, I don't think Daily's is a good trade for Met Park at all," Chip Southworth said.
