Latasha Hobbs has endured almost 3,000 days without her son, Maurice Hobbs, who was tragically killed in 2017 in the Southside Estates.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is putting a seven-year-old cold case back on the community’s radar as the department searches for answers to close the case.

Waters held a Neighborhood Crime Prevention Walk Saturday morning, where he not only had the opportunity to engage with the Beacon Hills and Harbor communities, but also share his reaction to the police union and the city of Jacksonville agreeing to a preliminary deal that increases the starting pay for officers.

Families of unsolved homicide victims in Jacksonville said the Florida Cold Case Unit will help families waiting for justice and answers.

It’s been over 2,000 days since Latasha Hobbs lost her son, who was shot and killed in 2017.

The group MAD DADS teamed up with local bikers and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for its 14th annual motorcycle ride through the city.

I want to do everything I can to keep guns out of the wrong hands, to help prevent gun violence. I want to help press the issue of community investment, good quality education, community love and infrastructure because all of those factors, they are all contributing factors to gun violence. Hobbs and Varner work with several different groups throughout Jacksonville that promote prevention and intervention in ending gun violence. Varner said the people who killed his son, ended up victims of gun violence themselves.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An event took place Saturday that aimed to help restore peace in the community while honoring lives lost to gun violence. Families of Maurice Hobbs and DJ Broadus helped organize and attended the gathering. She said it’s important to come together to realize everyone in the community has a responsibility to bring peace to their neighborhoods. “There should be a murder charge, not a tampering with evidence charge,” Dominic Broadus said. Dominic Broadus is asking supporters to come to sentencing in Baker County that starts at 9 a.m. Monday.
