President Donald Trump pardoned about 1,500 Capitol rioters on his first day in office, and now some of those involved in the Jan. 6 attack are getting a platform to tell their version of events.

Some of the rioters who tried to take over the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, are now considering running for office after being pardoned by President Donald Trump.

Secretary of State Laurel Lee issued a statement late Tuesday saying it does not appear that bad actors caused Monday's collapse of registration system. Monday's trouble with the voter registration website stoked concern, but there was relief that the cause was far less sinister. Its site would send Floridians to the state’s registration website. The statewide voter registration system, which serves Florida’s 67 counties, went online in October 2017. “The online voter registration site failed because it was designed to fail,” Holder said.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Floridians will get a chance to buy new specialty license plates, including three for out-of-state universities, while efforts to prevent shark “finning” got a boost Friday, as Gov. He signed a related bill (HB 787) that authorized putting the letter “D” on the cards. The measure also creates a “super tag” template for nine black fraternities and sororities dubbed the “Divine 9” --- Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta. A separate bill (HB 387) signed by DeSantis sets a standard $25 fee for most specialty license plates, with a $50 fee for the Alabama, Georgia and Auburn tags. The new bill bans the import, export and sale of shark fins, which are considered a delicacy in parts of Asia.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida set a new record for daily COVID-19 cases Friday, with 3,822 residents and nonresidents testing positive. Despite the steadily rising case numbers, a new survey conducted by the Florida Chamber of Commerce shows Floridians by and large are optimistic about the future. Cases have been steadily rising since June 6 when the survey began, but the survey period ended just before the four-day streak of skyrocketing cases. According to the survey, Republicans were far more likely to see the situation positively compared to Democrats. The survey shows 85% of Republicans approved of the governors handling of the crisis compared to just 31% of Democrats.

The new rules were widely opposed by those who have worked to put petition-driven initiatives on the ballot, people like Aliki Moncrief with the Florida Conservation Voters. "The petition process is important, and we are doing everything in our means to ensure the process continues as smoothly as possible," Secretary of State Laurel Lee said. "The Department of State is aware that there are operational issues with the Division of Elections Paid Petition Circulator website. We do not have any reason to believe that these operational issues are the result of external system intrusions." Grant said in addition to the website, he's concerned that some people might be deliberately disobeying the registration requirements.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - One of the first bills passed in the initial committee hearings for the 2020 Legislative Session would as voters to abolish the Constitution Revision Commission. The CRC is a constitutional body that meets every 20 years to propose constitutional amendments. Last year legislation to abolish the CRC passed the Senate, but it was never taken up for a vote on the House Floor. Our constitution should not be an unelected group of people offering new language into the constitution," Grant said. If abolishing the commission makes it out of the Legislature, voters will have the final say in November 2020.
