Man killed in shooting in Jacksonvilleโs Springfield neighborhood
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man was killed in a shooting Saturday night in the cityโs historic Springfield neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriffโs Office, police and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a shooting on 7th Street West near Silver Street and found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. At some point, according to JSO, the gun was fired and the victim was shot and killed. At this point, police donโt know if the shooting was intentional or accidental, according to the Sheriffโs Office. The Sheriffโs Office said it believes this was an isolated incident.

Middleburg man accused of killing brother is former pastor
MIDDLEBURG, Fla. โ Detectives with the Clay County Sheriffโs Office have arrested John Ward Gill, charging him with murder in the shooting death of his brother on Sunday. John Gill, 63, was transported to the Orange Park Medical Center with self-inflicted injuries that were not life-threatening. The Sheriffโs Office said this appeared to be a case of domestic violence. โOur thoughts and prayers go out to the Gill family,โ Public Affairs Officer Andrew Ford wrote in announcing details of the case. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police have charged a 27-year-old man with third-degree murder in a Jan. 3, 2020 double shooting on West 12th Street near Canal Street. Malik Brown, 18 was killed and a second man was wounded in what police believed was a robbery. Brown was a former Robert E. Lee High School football player who was attending Warner University and had a 1-month-old son. Daniel Denyasha, the man wounded in the shooting, was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree murder. He told police he thought he hit one of them.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead Monday morning outside the Kings Inn Hotel on Dix Ellis Trial, which runs off Baymeadows Road near Interstate 95. Roland Ball and Xavion Porter both face murder charges in connection with 17-year-old Inandi Wyche's killing. According to a redacted copy of Ballโs arrest warrant, the 21-year-old was identified as one of the individuals involved in Wycheโs killing, a deadly shooting that police believe was retaliation for the shooting of Daquan Saxton. Saxton, 20, was killed March 17, 2020, in a shooting that took place three blocks away.

Man charged with murder in killing of woman at Normandy Park
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a young woman who was found shot to death Monday morning at Normandy Park, the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office announced Tuesday. He said she had been trying to leave an abusive relationship with a man named Deiondre Lewis. Police confirmed Tuesday that Lewis had been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed firearm in connection with the shooting. Nov. 13: 54-year-old Terrion McQueen is shot and killed while sitting in her SUV outside a friendโs house in Oakleaf. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder after her 2018 shooting death on Fort Campbell in Kentucky.

Naked body with gunshot found in plastic container in pond
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police called to a Windy Hill neighborhood by a man out walking his dog Sunday morning found a plastic container dumped in a retention pond. Inside, police found a naked man dead with a gunshot wound. A Jacksonville homicide detective said the dive team retrieved a gray storage container from the pond on Dalry Drive, east of Southside Boulevard, and only a block from Windy Hill Elementary School. The victim inside was estimated to be between 30-40 years old. The pond is on land owned by the city of Jacksonville and adjoins the Windy Hill Community Center.

JACKSONVILLE, FLa. โ A man was killed and a 7-year-old boy was injured Sunday evening in a shooting at a football game at an Arlington Athletic Association field next to Arlington Heights Elementary School, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said shots were fired just after 6 p.m. Witnesses told police that a grey SUV pulled up to the field, a man wearing a grey hoodie and mask got out of the vehicle and shot at the victims. Police make arrest in March killing of 15-year-old
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A 20-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder months after a 15-year-old was shot at a Southside apartment complex. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said Branden Chau was charged Friday in the March 15 shooting at the Pinebrook Apartments on Powers Avenue. The victim, identified by family as Jaedon Pita, was found lying in a parking lot about 10:30 p.m. He died at a hospital. At the time police said there was an altercation before the shooting, but they didnโt know if the victim knew the shooter or was the intended victim.
Police investigate deadly stabbing at Atlantic Beach home
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. โ Homicide detectives called to a suspicious death early Monday morning on Redfin Drive at Sailfish Drive said a man was stabbed several times. Police said a resident of the home who called 911 about 1:15 a.m. but didnโt yet know that personโs relationship with the victim. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office is assisting the Atlantic Beach police with the investigation. Neighbors told News4Jax the people in that house moved in about a year ago but didnโt know much about them. Grand jury indicts man in shooting deaths of 3 friends
BARTOW, Fla. โ A grand jury formally charged a 26-year-old man with three counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shootings of three friends who had gathered at a central Florida lake in July for some late night fishing. Prosecutors have 45 days to determine whether to seek the death penalty for Tony ``T.J.'' Wiggins Jr., following the grand juryโs findings late Tuesday, the Ledger reported. He said his brother accused Springfield, who was a mechanic, of taking his truck, reports said. He also told investigators he couldnโt find his sonโs phone because it had fallen between the seats in the truck. Investigators said they found bullets at the home where Wiggins was living that matched the ones fired at the scene, arrest reports said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A pregnant woman was shot early Tuesday morning as she slept in her apartment on Kona Avenue, and the womanโs unborn child has died, police said. A Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office spokesman said the woman, in her late 20s, was shot once in the stomach around 1:15 a.m. She was stabilized at the hospital but was reportedly in serious condition. Police said two other people were inside the Golden Shores apartment complex at the time of the shooting. Teenager killed, 21-year-old injured in double shooting in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ An 18-year-old woman is dead and a 21-year-old man has non-life threatening injuries after a double shooting at the Cross Creek Apartment Complex on the Westside of Jacksonville. A spokesperson for Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office said the shooting happened before 1 a.m. According to police, the 18-year-old and 21-year-old were sitting in a vehicle when a shooter approached, likely with a rifle, and fired multiple rounds at the vehicle. Accomplice of man found dead in parking lot charged with murder
JACKSONVILLE, FLa. Six months after the body of a 27-year-old man was found early in a parking lot of a shopping plaza on Atlantic at Kernan boulevards, Jacksonville police announced the arrest someone believed to be with the victim during a nearby attempted armed robbery. Austin Douglas was found shot to death about 7 a.m. March 3 between two cars the parking lot of the plaza anchored by Kohls. Detectives said they learned that Douglas and two others were involved in an attempted robbery and aggravated battery on Woodbridge Court -- off Kernan. A U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force found Lott in Valdosta on Aug. 22 and made the arrest. On Wednesday, Lott was booked into the Duval County jail and charged formally charged with felony murder, attempted murder, attempted home invasion and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ An argument Saturday evening in a Northwest Jacksonville neighborhood ended with at least one gunshot and a man dead, according to police. He was taken to a hospital by Jacksonville Fire-Rescue, where he pronounced dead. Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office homicide investigators said the unidentified man who shot the victim drove away in a black car. According to News4Jax records, this was the 122nd homicide of the year in Duval County -- 100 of those ruled murders. There have been 374 people shot in Jacksonville this year -- including five in less than eight hours over the weekend.
Police: Accomplice of robber killed charged with murder
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Six weeks after 22-year-old Malik Sykes was shot and killed by the person he was trying to rob at a convenience store, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a man police believed was Sykess accomplice that day. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office said Shantez Forbes, 21, was arrested Wednesday on charges of felony murder, attempted robbery, shooting missiles and carrying a concealed firearm. Under Florida law, Forbes is charged with murder because Sykes death took place during the commission of a felony: attempted armed robbery. The State Attorneys Office has a long history of filing murder charges in such cases.

Woman shot to death inside car at Edgewood Avenue gas station
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A woman shot multiple times inside a car Monday morning at a Shell gas station on Edgewood Avenue West has died, and Jacksonville police believe she was targeted. Jacksonville Fire-Rescue was called just after 9 a.m. to the scene at the corner of Edgewood Avenue and Avenue B, but the victim could not be resuscitated. Homicide detectives who responded were told a man pulled up in a silver Nissan SUV, got out and fired several shots into the womanโs car before driving off. Family members and friends could be seen staring across at the car where their loved one was shot to death. In Jacksonville, eight people have been shot in the first three days of August.
Deadly shooting at a WaWa gas station
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Jacksonville Sheriffs Officers arrived at the WaWa gas station on Wilson Boulevard on Jacksonvilles Westside just after 11:30 Saturday night, in response to a reported shooting. Officers found who appeared to be a teenage girl suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say that primary investigation uncovered that there was an altercation of some kind inside the convenience store. The arguing parties proceeded into the parking lot, where after sometime, one of the individuals involved fired a handgun, striking the victim. Police say they believe that all of the individuals involved in the incident have been detained.

Brandon Williamson is accused of stabbing a 46-year-old man who was found bleeding from the chest Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon on Lake Shore Boulevard between Plymouth and Park streets. Police said they got several 911 calls reporting gunshots at 3:20 p.m. Officers found a 25-35 man shot to death inside a car that had crashed into a pickup truck. Man accused of murder in May beating death
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. After a man taken hospitalized for blunt force trauma after a May 25 incident at a gas station on Edgewood Avenue North died, his death was ruled a murder. James Cole was 51 years old. By policy, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office does not identify victims of crime so we dont know who the victim was, but we learned of his death when it was added to the JSOs website detailing the years homicides. Last week, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office arrested Arnett Bonner III was arrested for second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond.

Police said a man in his 40s was shot and killed Jan. 31 while driving on West Union Street in the Mixontown neighborhood. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died. Police said at the time they were looking for two men in a dark-colored sedan and announced the following week they had located the car. On Wednesday, police announced that Rashaurd DโShaun Lewis and Terron DaโSean Robinson Jr. were arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Duval County jail.
Riverside shooting victim identified as Nassau County man
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Loved ones are reeling from the death of a man shot following a fight over the weekend in Jacksonvilleโs Riverside neighborhood. Hendrix, a West Nassau High School graduate, was shot after a fight broke out, his friends previously told News4Jax. โIโm not surprised that it happened in Riverside because crime can happy anywhere in the city,โ Jordan said. One man got life in prison for that case, while a second man is serving a 20-year sentence. Former Jacksonville City Councilman Jim Love, who heads up the Park and King Street Area Association, has an office nearby.
Man shot in car in New Town dies
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ Police are looking for two people in a dark-colored sedan after multiple shots were fired into another car Friday afternoon, killing a man in his 40s. Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office homicide detectives said the shooting happened on Logan Street, north Beaver Street, about 2:55 p.m. The victim drove about two blocks before crashing into a vacant lot at the corner of Acorn and West Union streets, next to Eugene Butler Middle School. The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died. Investigators said they were looking at surveillance video hoping to identify the gunmenโs vehicle.
Man arrested in murder of woman in Gate Parkway apartment
Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in the Nov. 15 murder of Felisia Williams, who was shot and killed in her Gate Parkway apartment. Police called to the Gardens of Bridgehampton apartment complex that afternoon found the woman dead in one of the units. Keeshaun Glover, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On 25-year-old man was shot and killed Nov. 8 at the Century Deerwood Park Apartments on Gate Parkway. As of Friday, that victim has not been named and no one has been arrested in the case.
18-year-oldโs family pleads for help finding his killer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The family of a former Lee High School football player Malik Brown came forward Monday afternoon asking for information his murder Friday night. Brown's family was joined by members of the clergy and Jacksonville City Council to discuss his death and the lack of arrests. "This is my family and also my community," relative Brittany Herndon said. The group is also setting up a community plan to stop continuing violence in the same Jacksonville neighborhoods. The family held Mondayโs news conference at the Cochran Law Firm because Brown had a relative who works there and the whole firm is devastated.
Man found dead of gunshot in SUV in Brentwood
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man who police believe was shot once in the abdomen was found dead in a white SUV Tuesday morning in front of a house on West 42nd Street, half a block west of Main Street. Adam Blinn said a resident called 911 about 7:30 a.m. to report a person unresponsive in a vehicle. When police and Jacksonville Fire-Rescue personnel arrived, the man was dead. One man who works in the area thinks the shooting death probably has something to do with drug dealing. This was the 134th homicide in Jacksonville this year.
