The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is warning drivers about a recent text message scam claiming the recipient has an unpaid traffic ticket.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is holding a news conference Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Miami Beach Convention Center. He will be joined by FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass and FLHSMV Executive Director Dave Kerner.

FLHSMV said last year there were 746 fatalities, a decline from the previous year due to less people driving during the pandemic. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has fired two employees over racist comments, the department said Tuesday. According to the FLHSMV, the employees recently made hateful, racist and threatening remarks" aimed at protesters -- one on social media and the other through text messages. This conduct is not in any way reflective of the troopers and employees of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. To the rejoice of Floridians throughout the state, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will begin reopening some of its offices. Due to COVID-19, The FLHSMV closed its offices, extended expiring drivers license requirements, and relaxed motor vehicle registrations as well all in an effort to eliminate the need for in-person services.
