The future home of Florida’s first state-funded Black History museum is once again up for debate, even though a task force that met for nearly a year recommended St. Augustine as the location.

A state task force responsible for selecting the site for the Florida Museum of Black History recommended St. Johns County as the new home for the museum in a final vote on Friday.

The Florida Museum of Black History Task Force recommended St. Augustine to be the new home of Florida’s Black History Museum after hours of discussion on Tuesday.

A state task force in charge of selecting where Florida’s Black History Museum will be located voted Tuesday to move forward with St. Johns County as the recommended location.

St. Johns County was selected as one of the four finalists to be the home of the first Florida Museum of Black History, according to a release.
