The Florida Highway Patrol said the chase began at 7:18 a.m. at Old St. Augustine and I-295 when a trooper spotted a reckless driver going north at 100 mph. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Elizabeth McNew’s death sent shockwaves through the Atlantic Beach community. McNew died Sept. 25 of complications after contracting COVID-19. News4Jax has learned that McNew’s father and older brother both tested positive for COVID-19 but neither got sick as a result. McNew’s father works as a corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, but JSO said contact tracing has eliminated any possibility of work exposure. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nearly 50 more nonviolent, low-level offenders were released this month from the Duval County jail. The Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that visitation hours were cancelled after a section of glass attached to the front of the building broke loose.
