The family of a heart transplant patient who died after a short stay in the Duval County jail has settled a federal lawsuit over his death.

Another inmate has died in the Duval County Jail from a medical episode. Rebecca Faircloth, 62, was arrested in 2021. She was sentenced Friday to ten years in prison for attempted murder and firearms charges. She died in jail Monday. This comes weeks after JSO announced NaphCare will provide healthcare at the jail, taking over for Armor.

This week, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced it is terminating a $98 million contract with inmate healthcare provider Armor Health less than a year into the five-year contract. The termination letter obtained by News4JAX details the reasons why.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and Mayor Donna Deegan held a news conference on Tuesday evening to announce the end of a $98 million contract with Armor Correctional Health Services, which administers healthcare to inmates at the Duval County jail.

Questions about whether inmates were getting their prescriptions here at the jail go back to at least 2018. There are also reports of medications disappearing.

In an exclusive interview with the News4JAX I-TEAM, Sheriff T.K. Waters said Wednesday JSO is reviewing its contract with a company that provides healthcare to Duval County inmates.
