AdA senior Biden administration official portrayed that as a failed strategy. “The United States is in no rush to lift sanctions," the official said, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity to discuss the policy. Any easing of sanctions would likely face opposition in Congress, but the granting of temporary protected status for Venezuelans has bipartisan support. Temporary protected status is a more formal status that cannot be as easily reversed. Citizens of 10 countries, totaling about 400,000 people, are in the United States now with temporary protected status.

EXPLAINER: After acquittal, Trump 2024? Maybe not so fast

Read full article: EXPLAINER: After acquittal, Trump 2024? Maybe not so fast

Together the two impeachment trials Trump faced illustrated his ability to escape consequences for actions that even many Republicans denounced. If Trump chooses to run for the White House in 2024, opponents are likely to call on a constitutional provision adopted after the Civil War to try to stop him. Ratified in 1868, the language in Section 3 of the amendment was aimed at former Confederate civilian and military leaders. The section doesn't explicitly mention the presidency, but Magliocca is among legal scholars who believe Trump could be barred. It was updated on Feb. 19, 2021, to correct the name of the law professor to Gerard Magliocca, not Gerald Magliocca.

“For me to only be up six, I'm a little bit concerned,” he asserted. Trump backed out of plans for the originally scheduled presidential faceoff after debate organizers shifted the format to a virtual event following Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis. After being sidelined by the coronavirus, Trump resumed a breakneck schedule this week, with aides saying he is expected to travel and host campaign rallies every day through Nov. 3. His trip to Iowa comes as the state this week surpassed 100,000 coronavirus cases and has seen a recent surge in hospitalizations. Officials at the Des Moines airport were told to plan for up to 10,000 people, and such Trump campaign events typically feature little to no social distancing and only spot mask wearing.

Ron DeSantis extended the state’s voter registration deadline Tuesday after he said heavy traffic crashed the state’s online system and potentially prevented thousands of enrolling to cast ballots in next month’s presidential election. In addition to online registration, DeSantis ordered elections, motor vehicle and tax collectors offices to stay open until that hour for anyone who wanted to register in person. The volume of requests that overwhelmed the Florida registration site Monday was not consistent with denial-of-service attacks, which typically render websites unavailable with barrages of several hundred million requests per second. Sarah Dinkins, a Florida State University student, tried to help her younger sister register Monday night. Ron DeSantis in allowing the state’s voter registration website to crash on the very last day to register for the upcoming November election is, sadly, completely believable,” U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said.

WASHINGTON The Supreme Court is declining to revive a lawsuit by supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders who sued the Democratic National Committee in 2016 over claims officials improperly tipped the scales for Hillary Clinton during the nominating process. The justices said Monday they would not take up the lawsuit. As is usual the court did not comment in turning away the case. The lawsuit was filed after leaked DNC emails suggested Democratic party officials had favored Clinton over the Vermont senator during the primaries. The lawsuit by Sanders supporters was dismissed at an early stage and an appeals court had upheld the dismissal.

Florida Secretary of State Laurel Lee introduced a group of Department of State employees to a training seminar on cybersecurity Thursday. The secretary said the training is part of the comprehensive approach the state is taking to prevent any breaches in the 2020 election. A total of $5.1 million has so far been made available for the 2020 election.
