Andrew Ferris is captain of the tennis team at Creekside High School and finished the season as the district tournament champion of Class 4A in both singles and doubles, leading the Creekside boys to their first district team championship since 2009.

The number of recorded violations of the St. Johns County School District’s student dress code has skyrocketed during the 2020-2021 school year, according to data provided by the district.

“I made my sign and got dressed up and people noticed,” Spar-Kelly said. “Finally, people noticed.”The sign drag queen Spar-Kelly holds reads simply: “THIS IS NOT STUDENT PICK-UP, HONEY.” She held the sign in the neighborhood for three days. She and her neighbors say dozens of Creekside High School parents have been parking down the street during school pickup to avoid the long line to the school on Longleaf Pine Parkway. “The cars were parked and another car pulls around the parked cars and t-boned her.”On Wednesday, Spar-Kelly’s initiative paid off. Commissioner Christian Whitehurst said he is now working with St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office to get new “no parking” signs installed, showing that people can’t park in the neighborhood during afternoon pick up hours.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Creekside High School teacher is getting national recognition for her work in environmental sciences. Alicia Pressel, who teaches grades 9-12 at Creekside’s Academy of Engineering and Environment Sciences, was recently named one of eight “Emerging Explorers” by the National Geographic Society. Pressel became the second educator to receive this award out of its more than 130 recipients in 18 years. ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Heartbreak struck Creekside High School again after two students died in a car crash in Suwanee County. It’s a difficult loss for Creekside High students, especially since they lost another fellow student in a crash four months ago. As the sun set Monday night, students lit candles on the Rivertown Dock overlooking the St. Johns River as they remembered Llana and St. Jean. Records show it is the third deadly crash involving St. Johns County teens in the past four months who weren’t wearing their seatbelts. In December, an 18-year-old Creekside High School student, Jack Wheeler died after being ejected from a car.

Kelsey Sparks is captain of the competitive cheerleading squad at Creekside High School. Kelsey is in the National Honor Society, Link Crew, the Senior Beta Club, Senior Women and Best Buddies. Her volunteer work includes working with Christian Cheerleaders of America teaching cheer camps to groups all over the United States. She also volunteers with the March of Dimes and Ronald McDonald House. Kelsey currently has a 4.3 GPA.

Parents and students at Creekside High School were on edge Friday after more than a dozen students and a teacher left school ill Thursday with a suspected stomach virus. He said symptoms of flu include sudden fever and body ache, but also vomiting and diarrhea, which are symptoms reported among students at the high school. Rathore said as a precaution, everyone should get a flu shot to protect themselves against the virus. If it is the norovirus, Rathore said a person is considered contagious for two days after the symptoms present themselves. To minimize the chances of catching the norovirus, Rathore said to make sure you cook any seafood very well and wash vegetables before eating them.

On Thursday, 179 students were absent from the school and a total of 190 students checked out before the end of the school day, but it’s unclear why those students went home early. Dr. Daniel Thimann, a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, said there are different viruses that can cause the kinds of symptoms that Creekside students were reporting. Other parents and students also said they believe the number of students who are sick is much higher, but the school district only confirmed 19. At nearby Bartram Trail High School, parents were lined up Friday afternoon to check their children out of school.

Students told News4Jax that they noticed that some of their classmates were absent, they could hear students throwing up in the bathroom and teachers were passing out hand sanitizer and wipes.
