Read full article: Georgia Gov. Kemp sues to end cities defiance on mask rules

Brian Kemp is suing Atlanta to block the city from enforcing its mandate to wear a mask in public and other rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kemp and Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, in a suit filed in state court late Thursday, argued that Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has overstepped her authority and must obey Kemps executive orders under state law. The lawsuit will force that showdown, resolving what had been an ambiguous situation with Kemp denying local governments could order masks, but local governments arguing it was within their power. Kemp quickly swatted that down in public statements, and Bottoms on Thursday described them as guidelines. But Kemps lawsuit says the court should set Bottoms straight on those orders as well.

ATLANTA A lawyer for the family of Ahmaud Arbery said Monday that a federal prosecutor told the slain man's mother federal officials are investigating potential misconduct by local officials who handled the case. The elder McMichael worked as an investigator for Johnson, the Brunswick Circuit District Attorney, before retiring a year ago. Because of that, Johnson stepped away from the case, asking Carr to appoint Waycross Circuit District Attorney George Barnhill to replace her.

You can't always trust your caller ID, warns Georgia's attorney general

Read full article: You can't always trust your caller ID, warns Georgia's attorney general

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - You can't always trust your caller ID, according to a top Georgia official. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr issued a warning about con artists disguising the number on your caller ID to appear to be financial institutions, government entities and other credible organizations. The Federal Communications Commission announced this month that it is enforcing the RAY BAUM'S Act, which bans falsifying caller ID information via text message and international calls. The best advice to beat spoofers is simple -- never assume that someone is who they purport to be just because the number displayed on your caller ID matches that of an organization you know. Remember, your credit union will never ask you to do any of these things, and the IRS will never call you.
