Officers say the car was traveling north on Cassat Avenue at 2:10 a.m. when it went off the road and hit the sign at the intersection with Edgewood Avenue. The driver died at the scene. Jacksonville Traffic Homicide is currently investigating the crash.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the medical examiner determined Gregory had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage from the incident. The 18-year-old’s aunt, Teanay, said he called her during the traffic stop, asking her to come pick him up. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that officers tried to de-escalate the situation, telling him not to reach under the seat, which can be heard in the video.

A shooting victim might survive after he was targeted in what looks to be a drive-by shooting. Jacksonville Police said that they arrived the shooting at the to the intersection of Cassat and Lennox Avenue around 10 Wednesday night. When authorities arrived, they found a car idling in the middle of the intersection. Officers noted in a report, the car was riddled with bullet holes and that the adult male driver was shot.The driver was rushed to the hospital. Investigators said preliminary information shows that a person in another car shot up the car and the victim and fled.
